5 Hacks I Used in Making My Life an Adventure

Have you ever had one of such boring days where you simply couldn’t wait for the day to end? I mean, it was so boring you literally were done with that particular day. Well, I can relate. The last time I did, I made up my mind to live life as the adventure it truly is. When you live life is an adventure, it becomes fuller, makes more meaning and gives you a sense of fulfillment. I didn’t just decide to make my life an adventure, I took practical steps to ensure it is. So here are my hacks to living a completely adventurous and fulfilling life. Please do feel free to add yours too.

1. Breathe

Sometimes we get too concerned with the circumstances happening around us that we forget to take a chill pill and live life. We get so engrossed in our thoughts that we neglect the beautiful things happening around us. Just breathe. You may not be able to solve all your problems now but I assure you that if you just take a deep breath and shut your mind off those banging thoughts of worry, half of your problems will be solved. Yes, 50% literally. Our problems compound when we give too much attention to them. You attract what you think about the most, so just relax and breathe.

2. Go out

Unfortunately, when you tell people go out, they respond with “oh I don’t have money” or “who do I go out with”. Contrary to that, all I’m asking you to do is to leave your comfort zone, get off your bed and take a walk down your street, I promise, you will come back home with a smile. Just get out there and see life, see it’s beauty and splendor, it’s diversity with and open mind, listen to the birds sing, let your soul loose. Adventures don’t happen in familiar places, they happen in places that are new to us. I would usually take a stroll down a street very close to mine. During these walks, I had some of my best ideas and contemplated some ideologies that have shaped my thinking.

3. Meet People

Yes, I know how difficult it is for an introvert like yourself (and myself) to actually strike a conversation with someone. Just like you, I don’t feel the urge to engage people I meet for the first time. But if you’re going to live an adventurous life, you’ve got to meet people. Humans are the most amazing creations on earth. An open minded interaction with another person can give you another perspective to life in such a way that it broadens your horizon. It’s one of the most beautiful things to see the world through the eyes of someone else, I bet you, it’s an adventure worth experiencing. I was opportuned to join one of Africa’s largest and most cerebral business clubs called the Hexavian Business Club, I had the opportunity to meet very inspiring people who had built enterprises that shape the economies of countries and transform the lives of people.

4. Get involved

Eleanor Roosevelt said when you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.So that means if you want to continue living life especially to its fullest, then you must be a part of something, you must get involved in making something work. At the end of the day, even if it’s free, you will receive something money cannot buy and that’s fulfillment. Join volunteer programs, join non-profit projects and see how much fun and adventure you will have. Have you noticed? The things you do for free that impact others are usually the most fulfilling. I can recall when my friends and I started a project called #colours. We set out to encourage youths to be involved in the lives of the younger generation through philanthropy. I mean, it was so amazing when I was given the opportunity to speak to hundreds of kids. I felt so fulfilled so much that you would think I won a million dollar lottery.

5. Learn

I recently got hung up in a book that has expanded my thinking a hundred percent. It’s a book about Singapore written by its first prime minister – Lew Kuan Yew. the book is so well detailed that you can relive each moment with him. This book opened my mind to concepts I had never known — things like the world banking system, managing people of diverse culture and very trivial things like talking to a squint-eyed person. I laughed a lot reading the book because even in the seriousness of the book, there was still some sense of humor which every normal human being can relate with. If I had the opportunity to travel to Singapore today, I’d definitely have a better time than if I hadn’t read the book.
