“Be still”…This is perhaps one of the most powerful instructions in our holy books…
Most times as human we mumble up Our Circle of Concern with our Circle of Influence. In the book, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey gives a good illustration of this in terms of the Circle of Concern and Circle of influence. Our Circle of Concern are things or areas in life where we tend to worry about but have ‘no real control’ over e.g when we are in ill health or we lose someone; while those things or areas we can work on e.g habits, are in our Circle of Influence. Worry overwhelms us when we channel our time and energy to things in our Circle of Concern instead of things in our Circle of Influence.
Worrying in a Circle of Concern is useless. When there’s really nothing you can do about a situation, Rest!
Sometimes all it takes, is to take a deep breath, just relax in a soul and personal epiphany, and attempt dwelling fully and only in the present. _The Budhists and the writer Eckhart Tolle in his meditative book of spiritual enlightenment calls it The Power of Now_.
Our unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worries — all forms of fear — are caused by TOO MUCH EMPHASIS IN THE FUTURE and not enough PRESENCE in the PRESENT. And on the other hand, guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non forgiveness are caused by TOO MUCH PAST, AND NOT ENOUGH PRESENT. It doesn’t matter what happens in the past or what will happen in the future, what should matter to you is that you can change a lot of things now. This is the power of now!
Learn to be alone, just to dwell in the present and note;
- When you are Alone, Mind your thought.
- When you are with Friends, Mind your Tongue.
- When you are Angry, Mind your Temper.
- When you are with a Group, Mind your Behaviour.
- When you are in Trouble, Mind your Emotions.
- When you are making it, Mind your Ego.
Just mind the present, its a gift and that’s why it is called “present”, enjoy it.
In the words of Joyce Meyer, when your body and soul is resting, your emotions are okay, your mind is okay, and your will is at peace with God, not resisting what He’s doing. Not foolishly trying to undo what He’s already done.
As long as we are in tension, we lose the power to control the realm upon which He can deliver us. The concept of God like all medicine, and even the universe, they all work better while we are at rest. Like I usually ask, would you rather attempt to work while He rests or would you rather rest so He can work?
Your mind is constantly in battle, as it houses a series of infinite thoughts all over the place, each like a drunk jumping monkey. Imagine keeping all of them still. That’s the goal so you can eventually focus on one thing. At that point, insights to win comes.
Be still, listen and instructions will come. For some of us ordinary business men, not yet gifted with dramatic machine gun tongue speaking and “voice from heaven kind of vision”, the most physical landing turf for the Holy Spirit is a place called insights, ideas and concepts. And it takes stillness to access it. #CreativeEnergy
When in crisis and in need to know what next, that battle isn’t really yours, so fight not FOR victory, but FROM a place of victory, #Joy. You know you are already fighting any situation wrongly when you’re losing sleep. You losing it, is an indication that you are losing it.
Replace losing your mind with Joy for what he has already done. #BasedOnBelief #ChurchForTheStreets
Once you have over time mastered meditation. You can now meditate on the word or your affirmations, prayers or mantra. Your prayer becomes more in connection.
Meditation creates depth, by letting the outer noise off without drowning that inner voice. .
