How To Move From Ideas To Execution (Part One)

I pitched a friend many years ago about an idea. It was perfect and flawless, and we were pumped and passionate about turning this idea into a profitable business. We did all our analysis and paperwork, and it was all good, but within weeks, the idea died, and we moved on. We were in our early twenties, and we believed so much in our ideas.

“Ideas are bullshit, execution is key.”

Really, when you look at it closely, this is what it really is. And yes, I know all about the success stories of the Silicon Valley kids who turned the world around with innovative ideas. It is interesting how we believe these stories, and no sir, those stories aren’t wrong either, they are only incomplete.

 ideas are cheap

“Ideas are bullshit, execution is key.”

You have to forgive me for quoting that again, but I just had to. I used to accept those internet stories, and by the way, my favorite of all is Steve Jobs. It is captivating and mind boggling how a twenty years kid used his father’s garage to sell an idea that wasn’t even his. The headline on wannabe blogs always read: “Ideas rule the world.”

I agree partly with what they wrote and still write, after all it draws readers to their blogs, but then again, I feel inclined to write this, this time without any apologies.

“Ideas are bullshit, execution is key.”

Ideas truly rule the world, but it isn’t just ideas alone. It is you. To win in this game, you have to do everything you can do. To be passionate is cool, it’s like the icing on a cake. It makes the journey easier and more rewarding, but above all, you have to grind. You have to be resourceful.

You have to forget social media, unless it’s strictly for business and meeting clients. You have to leave your comfort and meet the buyers on the street and try to convince them to buy from you.

Who gave you six hours to sleep? Really, you will have all day to sleep in the future if you start now. How about spending six hours on Facebook looking for likes and comments? How in the world can you afford that luxury?

Ok I get it now, you don’t have a dream right? In that case, I will have to apologize. But then, I hope you sell your alarm clock (if you have one) and use the money to pay for data and cable subscriptions.

Truth is, it is easy to have an idea. In a country like Nigeria, to generate an idea is very easy. Look around you, you just might find something you can change. Almost everything is messed up right now. Whatever you decide to change is an idea. Those are genius ideas if you ask me.

I really hope you read this far because you have an idea, and if you do, then you have to figure out how to write that idea on paper, leave your room and talk to clients on the streets and make that idea happen every day you breathe. As always, the reason is because…

“Ideas are bullshit, execution is key.”

the dream is free

I like this. It’s all about the hustle and nothing else. And that is where most people miss it. To be successful in Nigeria or anywhere else, you’ve got to hustle. You’ve got to be resourceful. You’ve got to be resilient. You’ve got to be persistent. I wish I could go on but I agree with you. Ideas are nothing without execution. Just like the electric cooker is useless without electricity, ideas are nothing without execution.

“You’ve got to be resourceful.” That statement just summarizes everything.

Thank you for stopping by.

Fantastic write up!!!

Ideas, it’s brilliance and knowledge is not power or energy. It is just mere potential energy. It’s execution converts it to Kinetic Energy. Do is a verb, an action word. #followThrough..

Thanks Sylva.

Energy from physics is the ability to do work – i.e to produces results and values. Ideas are great but they are just potential energy waiting to be ignited and converted to kinetic energy. #thephysicsofbusiness.

At Hexavia, we love and understand business. I don’t mean the kind of business that feeds a family and pay school fees. The goal is to build business that become brands, that succeeds its owner, and become trans-generational, but it all starts with executing your idea.

Well said! How to get the funds to act is the challenge lots of dreamers face. That’s another hurdle

Dear David, sourcing for funds is one of the most difficult aspect of chasing your dreams. Matter of fact, it is the reason why only a handful of dreamers bring their ideas to fruition. The first step isn’t to try to raise funds, this is because funds isn’t the reason why business rise and fall. The first step is to love what you do, or what you want to do.

This love gives birth to passion, which builds the energy to go on. Entrepreneurs are most of all must learn to be resourceful, and resilient.

Thank you David for stopping by.

“THE DREAM IS FREE, THE HUSTLE IS SOLD SEPERATELY”. Between the dream and the hustle lies the fate of the dreamer. At the end of the day, the decision is all yours. Wake up or keep succeeding in your dreams.

Awesome Awesome piece!

And don’t thank me for stopping by! ;).
